Norris Turner of Belle Vernon was born on Jan. 3; 1927; in Detroit; Mich.; to the late James Isaac and Louise Turner; parents of 10 children. He departed this life on Tuesday; Jan. 8; 2002; in his home at the Belle Vernon Apartments. Mr. Turner led a full and active life. He was raised in Arnold City and enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces and served for 20 years in many capacities. He was a Korean War veteran. Norris Turner settled in Detroit; Mich.; where he worked at Ford Motor Company from 1963 to 1970. When he returned to Pennsylvania; he became active and dedicated to the NAACP and served as president of the Mon Valley Branch in 1992 until his death. Mr. Turner also was president of the Antioch Bowling League for many years; and he served as president of the Belle Vernon Apartments Tenants Association as well. Norris Turner was preceded in death by his parents; sisters; Juanita; Patty and Alice; and brothers; Junior and Ronny; all of Toledo; Ohio. Norris Turner and his first wife; Geneva Dupree; had three children; Linda Mounds of Harrisburg; Pa.; Jacalyn Mills of Belle Vernon; and Donna Mills of Monessen. Mr. Turner and his second wife; Leetha Smith; had two children; the late Stanford Turner and Regina Jackson and also Christina Turner; all of Detroit; Mich. Norris Turner is survived by four daughters; and two sisters; Cleor Dixon and Jeanette Lemley of Detroit; Mich. I have fought a good fight; I have finished my courseÉ Friends will be received in the Wickhaven First Christian Church on Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday; Jan. 12; until 1 p.m.; the hour of services. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME; 334 Main St.; Fayette City.
