Thelma Georgette (Andrews) Zucconi;87;of the Residence at Hilltop;Monongahela;formerly of Belle Vernon;passed away Sunday;July 29;2001;in the Havencrest Nursing Home;Carroll Township. She was born June 28;1914;in Speers;a daughter of the late George E.and Elizabeth Bessie Andrews. A 1932 graduate of Charleroi High School;she also graduated from the Bertha Leonard Business School with the class of 1933. She married Homer Raymond Zucconi in 1939;and they owned and operated Zucconi Distributing from 1938 to 1990. She managed the business on her own while her husband served with the U.S.Army Air Corps during World War II. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church;Belle Vernon;and had been the president of the Tuesday Evening Civic Club in 1957-58 and1958-1959. As president; she directed the Club’s efforts in
fund drives for the March of
Dimes; the Salvation Army of
Westmoreland County; the Red
Cross; Easter Seals; the Boy
Scouts; Cub Scouts and the
Girl Scouts. Under the Club’s
sponsorship; a new Cub Scout
pack was started. The group
was also instrumental in establishing
the Girl Scout Little
House in Belle Vernon. During
her tenure as president of the
Tuesday Evening Civic Club;she served on the Belle Vernon Library Board and was active with the Mon Valley Hospital
Auxiliary from 1986 to 1996;
receiving a 10;000-hour pin for
her service. Along with her parents; she was predeceased
by her husband; Homer
R. Zucconi; two brothers. John
L. and Homer Andrews: and a
sister; Irene Toth. Survivors
include two sons. Homer R. Jr.
and his wife; Barbara; of Belle
Vernon and George A. and his wife;Nancy of Jacksonville;Fla.; a daughter; Debra Sue Schoentag and her husband Charles; of Treasure Lake;
DuBois; six grandchildren;
Jennifer Long of Colchester;
Conn.; Leslie Zucconi of Belle
Vernon; Jamie and Gabe
Schoentag of Treasure Lake;
DuBois and Loren and Jason
Zucconi of Orlando; Fla. Visitation
will take place Tuesday
from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
