Daniel Zeke Evangelist;77;of Belle Vernon(Rostraver Township);died Thursday;June 28;2001;in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born Aug.31;1923;in Monessen;a son of the late Albert and Grace (Marto) Evangelist. He was a 1943 graduate of Monessen High School;where he played football from 1939 to 1943. From 1943 to 1949;he played and coached for the Monessen Ravens semi-pro foorball team. In 1968;he was inducted into the Monessen Hall of Fame for the time he played and coached;from 1940 to 1949. He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II;having served in the South Pacific;in Saipan and Okinawa. He was a member of the Covenant Christian Church in Belle Vernon. He retired with 40 years of service from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.;having worked in the blooming mill. Survivors include his wife of 50 years;Betty Ann (Usher) Evangelist;one son;Daniel Evangelist Jr.and wife;Yvette;of Monessen;three daughters and sons-in-law;Danette and Hugh Shearer of Rostraver Township;Julie Lynn and Brian Roberts of Belle Vernon;and Toni Jo and Brian Bennett of Belle Vernon;one sister-in-law;Theresa Evangelist of Carrick;four grandchildren;Ryan Colditz;Aubree Nicole Evangelist;Chelsea L.Roberts;and Casey Lynn Roberts;and three nieces. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by three brothers;Anthony;Joseph and Samuel Evangelist. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC.;441 Reed Ave.;Monessen where services will be held Monday at 10 a.m.with the Rev.Dr.Frank J.DePolo officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
