The body of a Fayette City man,missing since Jan.31,1951,was taken from the Monongahela River at Vesta on Saturday afternoon,March 17,1951,and it was believed he fell into the stream on that fateful January day while salvaging driftwood. George Salko,68,had been the object of a tri-county search since last January. On Saturday afternoon,about 2:40 o'clock,Jack O'Savage of Vesta,who was walking along the shore after work,discovered Mr.Salko's remains. Mr.Salko,on January 31,went to the swollen Monongahela River,as was his daily habit,to hunt driftwood. Born in Austria in 1883,he was a retired miner and a veteran employee of Pittsburgh Coal Company. He is survived by his widow,Helen;one daughter,Mrs.Mike Karpoff of Cokebug and two grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday,March 19,1951,from the McCrory Funeral Home in Fayette City with interment at Belle Vernon Cemetery.
