Mrs.Elizabeth Shaffer,38,mother of two children was struck down and fatally injured Saturday night,October 1,1949,by a speeding hit-run driver near her home on Route 71,one mile East of Belle Vernon. The victim died enroute to the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. State Police reported she had been visiting neighbors and was on her way home with an unidentified companion when she was struck. Surviving Mrs.Shaffer are her husband,James;one son,Timothy;one daughter,Tamara,and three sisters. Friends will be received at the Melenyzer Funeral Home. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at St.Sebastian's R.C.Church,Belle Vernon in charge of Rev.Francis Martin. Burial will be made in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Chas.L.Melenyzer is the funeral director.
