Obituary

Charles E.Smith,aged 70 years,died suddenly Sunday afternoon,January 29,1939,at his home on Ontario street in Monessen. He had been ailing for several days but his condition was not considered serious. He had been a resident of Monessen for the past forty years,coming here from Lonaconing,Md.,when Monessen was first incorporated as a borough. He had been employed as a weightmaster at the Page mill. Surviving are his wife,Josephine Coleman Smith,and the following children,Anna Coleman Smith of Johnstown,Robert Smith, Mrs.Claire Pritchard,William,Rose and Harry,all of Monessen. Three grandchildren also survive,along with two sisters,Mrs.Harry Miller of Derry and Mrs.Bertha Schaffer of Johnstown. Funeral services are announced for Wednesday afternoon February 1,1939,at 2 o'clock from his home,with Rev.J.R.McFarland,pastor of the Presbyterian Church,officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
