Louis Souply;formerly of this city;but now a well known farmer of Rostraver township;committed suicide yesterday afternoon;Wednesday;Nov.31;1921;by slashing his throat with a hugh butcher knife. Mr.Souply was a victim of the flu epidemic and ever since his illness had been acting strangely about the house and lately was carefully watched by other members of his family. Yesterday he arose early and going to the side of his wife who was still asleep in her bed;kissed her and started to leave. The wife awoke and believing that all was not well hurriedly dressed and followed him down stairs to discover that he was quietly leaving the house with a shot gun in his possession. She ran to the yard and questioned him about his actions and took the gun away. His mind apparently affected;the husband walked about the yard during the remainder of the day and in the afternoon ordered his wife and three children who were at home;out of the house. The wife;fearful of her own safety took the two small children and went to the porch;but an elder daughter remained in the house and plead with her father not to do anything rash and fought with him for some time;but the determined man finally kissed her;and then put her out of the house;locking all the doors from the inside. The frightened mother rushed to the home of neighbors for assistance;while the daughter attempted to gain entrance into the house. While passing near a window she looked in and saw her father sharpening the large butcher knife. Mr.Souply noticed the daughter peering in at the window and drew the blinds after which he walked to the kitchen and slashed his throat from ear to ear and then crawled on his hands and knees to an adjoining room where he was found. Neighbrs who answered the frantic woman’s cries for help;hurried to the house but on finding the doors locked;refused to force entrance and State Police were called;and after breaking down a door they entered and found the man dead on the parlor floor. Mr.Souply was well known here;having conducted a milk route in town for years. He is survived by his wife and five children;all of whom are at home with the exception of one. Coroner Harkins of Mt.Pleasant was notified and is expected this afternoon to conduct an inquest. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning;Dec.3;1921;with interment in the Belle Vernon cemetery.
