Sylvia Sergi, aged 14 years, was struck by the south bound express at Stockdale Saturday afternoon April 6,1918,and received injuries from which he died a short time later. According to the story told by a boy companion,Sergi and his boy friend had boarded the north bound passanger train at Roscoe at 2:45 p.m.,Saturday afternoon to ride to Stockdale. As the conductor did not reach the boys to lift their faces before the train reached Stockdale and as they feared they would not be able to reach the front of the car and get off before the train started, they went to the rear. The door on the right side of the coach was locked but the one on the left side being open the boys got off on the side opposite the station. Sergi had crossed the track of the middle siding, when the express came by and before the boy could get out of the way,he was hit by the pilot of the engine, receiving a fatal blow on the forehead. He was picked up and put on the train from which he had just gotten off,to be brought to the local hospital. However, before Charleroi was reached the boy had died. The body was taken to the morgue of L.B. Frye, where it was prepared for burial. The Coroner was notified of the death and will hold an inquest later. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon with interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
