Obituary

John William Manown,aged 73,first postmaster and a former school director at Monessen,died in his home at 215 Sixth street,Monongahela,Monday night,July 22,1940 at 10:20 o'clock. He was born in Westmoreland county Sept.7,1867,but he had resided in Monongahela for 15 years. He previously had lived in Forward Township and Monessen. Mr.Manown,a retired farmer and banker,was a member of Monessen Lodge of Master Masons No.638 and Syria Shrine,Pittsburgh Consistory. The deceased is survived by his wife Mrs.Myrtle Manown,one daughter,Vella,at home,one son,Voyle F.Manown of Norristown,Pa.,two brothers,James of Monessen and Edward of Warren,O.,two sisters,Mrs.Margaret Carnes and Mrs.Pearl Kisor,both of Monessen. Two grandchildren also survive. Services will be held at the Bebout and Yohe Funeral Home on Thursday,July 25,1940,at 2 p.m.,in charge of the Rev.Ross M.Haverfield assisted by the Rev.Carl K.Boyer. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
