Lawrence E. "Mac" McCreary,aged 38 years,died Wednesday morning,July 1,1936 at 6 o'clock at his late residence in 825 Fourth street,California. He was a son of the late Mr.and Mrs. William S. McCreary,pioneer residents of Monessen. The deceased,a member of Charleroi Post 22,American Legion,and Forty and Eight,was severly gassed in the St.Mahiel drive,while serving Fourth division,in France. With him in Battery D and at his side in the St.Mahiel drive were three other local soldiers,J.Stewart Wilo,of Charleroi,Harold R.Troner,of Belle Vernon,and James Mathewson,of Fayette City. Surviving are his wife,Mrs.Edna McCreary and one daughter,Mary ,aged sixteen;two brothers,Thomas,of Miami,Fla.,and Ray,of Cleveland,Ohio;and one sister,Mrs. Bertha Roth,of Lorraine,Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the residence Sunday,July 5 at 2:30 o'clock. Military rites will be in charge of American Legion Post 22,of Charleroi. The Rev. Hicks of the Methodist Episcopal Church,California,will officiate. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetey.
