Robert Kirkpatrick,coal and iron policeman,stationed formerly at Bentleyville,who suffered complete paralysis of the body when he was struck while riding his motorcylce at the intersection of the Charleroi-Bentleyville road on July 29,1926,died at the U.S.Marine Hospital in Pittsburgh on Wednesday morning April 20,1927. At the time of the accident he was employed as a coal and iron policeman for the Bethlem Steel Corporation and was enroute from his home in West Newton to Ellsworth. At a point on the Maple Creek road an autoist ran into his motorcylce and the officer suffered injuries that kept him confined to his bed almost continually since that time. He suffered a paralysis of both limbs and was unable to walk. A suit for damages was brought against the autoist and several weeks ago the case was called in Washington and Kirkpatrick was brought into court on a cot. The jury hearing the eveidence returned a verdict awarding the injured man $3000. Every effort has been made to secure a complete recovery for the injured officer and he has been in four hospitals and since December has been a patient in the United States Marine hospital and seemingly was on a fair road to recovery,until about 10 days ago whe he became the victim of hiccups and did not secure relief from them until his death on Wednesday,April 20,1927 at 3 a.m. He was 30 years of age and is survived by his wife and three children residing in West Newton and also his parents. During the World War he served as a member of the United States Marines.
