Obituary

Funeral services will be held Friday for Beverly Patricia Griffith, aged 9 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Griffith,549 Conrad avenue,North Charleroi, who died in Charleroi-Monessen hospital of a skull fracture after plunging from a railroad trestle of Pittsburgh & West Virginia railroad when a freight train trapped her on the bridge. The accident ocurred at the Twilight high level trestle about 4:30 o'clock Monday as Beverly and a girl companion walked across the bridge.  It developed that the other girl crouched at a fire barrel standard, but Beverly became frightened and was either struck by the approaching locomotive or jumped 60 feet from the bridge to the ground.  Authorities and doctors, after examination of the injuries, were of the opinion that the girl may not have been struck by the engine.  She died of a skull fracture. There was room at the barrel platform for both girls but it is thought that Beverly became frightened and remained alongside the tracks until the train, traveling at a good speed with a merchandise freight load, rounded a curve and bore down upon the bridge.  Beverly was  a member of the Christian Church of Charleroi.  She is survived by her parents and was an only child.  Mr. and Mrs. Willima Palfrey,Charleroi and Mr.and Mrs. S.L. Griffith,Speers, are the grandparents.
