Obituary

Emile Gerard, aged 62 years,a native of France, residing at 584 Sixth street, and Conrad avenue,North Charleroi, employed as a laborer by a local company,is the first victim of the torrid weather in Charleroi when Monday morning,June 15,1925 at 8:15 o'clock,he was fatally overcome while returning home from work.  Mr.Gerard, who is well known at the Lock, having resided there for the past 12 years, has been enjoying apparently good health and as usual left the home Monday morning at 7 o'clock to walk to work.  He evidently began feeling too badly and started homeward.  When reaching Isabella avenue,North Charleroi, after mounting the steps at Fifth street, the victim was seen to lurch forward on his face and fell to the ground.  When pedestrians reached his side,he was dead.  Mr.Gerard was a member of the Charleroi French club.  There survive his wife,Mrs.Seraphine Gerard, and two children,Maurice Gerard,at home, and Mrs.Virginia Merrer of Connecticut.  Six grandchildren also survive.  Funeral services will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home in Conrad avenue with Rev.Frank S.Montgomery in charge.  Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
