Edward Jay Redwine;81;of 961 Alexander Ave.;Monessen;went home to be with the Lord on Monday;April 30;2001. Born March 13;1920;in Douglasville;Ga.;he was the son of the late Thomas and Clyde Gertrude (Nalls) Redwine. He was also preceded in death by a brother;Alfred Redwine;and a sister;Thelma Redwine. He was an active member of Mt.Calvary Baptist Church in Monessen;where he served as a member of the gospel chorus;chairman of the trustee board and deacon. Mr.Redwine served in the U.S.Army during World War II;from 1943 to 1946. In the military;his tour of duty included the United States;Scotland and France. He received the following citations and awards;Arrow Head;two Bronze Stars;European Theater of Operations Ribbon and Good Conduct Ribbon. He also played in the military band;was company bugler;assistant clerk and a member of the all-star softball team. After his tour in the Army;Edward returned home to work in the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel mill;where he was employed for 32 years until his retirement in 1973. Mr.Redwine served as former vice president and chaplain of the Veterans Council. He also served as former chairman of the board of directors;commander and financial officer of American Legion Post 691 and treasurer of the Legion Home Association. Mr. Redwine served as assistant secretary of F&AM Lodge 79 and was also affiliated with Lodge 697. He married the love of his life;Doris Flythe Redwine;58 years ago;on Oct.23;1942;in Cumberland;MD. In addition to his wife;Doris;he is survived by three daughters;Regina Redwine-Russell of Silver Spring;Md. Marla Denison and Eddora Farrell;a devoted nephew Edward Jay Rendleman of Wiesbaden;Germany;and sons-in-lavv Charles Russell; Jimmie Denson II and
Kingsley Farrell. Surviving grandchildren include Nicole
Russell; Jacob Denson; Colin
Farrell and Jarae Farrell and a host of nieces;nephews;cousins and friends. Family and friends will be received on Thursday;May 3;;at Mount Calvary Baptist Church;230 Reed Ave.;Monessen;from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.and on Friday;May 4;at 10 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday;May 4;at 11 a.m.at Mount Calvary Baptist Church;with the Rev.Griffin Mason officiating.
