Obituary

Funeral services for Jay O.Bechtel,former local resident,who died suddenly Monday morning,September 21,1936,while at work in the Pitsburgh Plate Glass Company of Ford City,will be held from his home,Fourth Avenue,Ford City,Tuesday night at 8 o'clock with further services Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home of Hans Lindholm,601 Sixth Street,Charleroi.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Services will be in charge of Rev.Bernard C.Newman,rector of St.Paul's Episcopal Church,Kittanning.  It will be a Masonic funeral.  Reporting as usual for work Monday morning,he comlpained of pains aroud his heart.  He was given first aid for an attack of indigestion but died shortly afterwards. Mr.Bechtel ,whose home was in Charleroi, was prominent in Elk and Masonic circles.  He was one of Charleroi's best known citizens.  Although he moved to Ford City when the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. plant was transferred from Charleroi,Jay continued to maintain close home ties.  Charleroi was indeed home to Jay Bechtel,for it was here that he had hundreds of friends who heard the news of his death with mingled feeling of shock and deepest regret.  Mr.Bechtel was born in Akron,Ohio Sept.3,1883,but had lived many years in Charleroi.  He was an assistant superintendent in the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co.  Surviving are his wife,Alice;his parents,Mr.and Mrs.George P.Bechtel,of Wadsworth,Ohio;a brother,L.J.Bechtel,of Wadsworth,and an uncle,John A.Bechtel,of Tarentum,Ohio.
