Obituary

Saverio (Sam) Zema Sr.,88,of 403 Main St.Belle Vernon,died Friday,Feb.25,1977 at 1:25 p.m. in Presbyterian University Hospital,Pittsburgh. He was born March 23,1888 in Italy and was a resident of Belle Vernon for over 60 years. Mr.Zema retired 23 years ago as a miner at the old Somers Mine in Pricedale. He was a member of St.Sebastian's Catholic Church,Sons of Italy and Market Street Italian Beneficial Club,all of Belle Vernon. He was preceded in death by his wife,Mary Bitonti Zema,on Sept.9,1974. Surviving are two sons,Sam Zema Jr.and ALbert W.Zema,both of Belle Vernon,three daughters,Mrs.Daniel (Mary) Solomon of West Mifflin,Mrs.Adam (Rose Marie) Beketic of Southgate,Calif.,and Mrs.Peter J.(Sarah) Bednarczyk of Fayette City R.D.1,two sisters in Italy,16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayer services will be held Monday,Feb.28,1977 at 9:30 a.m.in the funeral home,followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St.Sebastian Catholic Church,Belle Vernon,at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson is funeral director in charge of arrangements.
