The body of a 21-year-old Rostraver Twp.soldier who was killed on Saturday;June 7;1969;in Vietnam;has been returned home. S.W.3 John S.J.Staff;son of James H.and Josephine Bankowski Staff;who live near Fellsburg;was pronounced dead at a field hospital near Saigon after he apparently stepped on a land mine near Tayen Nhon on the Saul Vanco River. Staff was a member of the Sea Bees;joining a reserve unit stationed in McKeesport in Nov.;1966. Until called up for active duty last February;he had worked with his father on the Hatfield Power Co.power plant now under construction near Masontown. His father is president of Rostraver Volunteer Fire Co.No.1 at Webster and young Staff was also a volunteer fireman. He was graduated from Belle Vernon Area High School in 1966. Born in Pittsburgh on Feb.12;1948;he was a member of St.Anne’s R.C.Church in Rostraver Twp. He was also a member of the Clan Grant Scottish Band of Donora. Surviving besides his parents is a brother;James H.of Donora. Friends will be received after 7 p.m.June 19 at the James C.Stump Funeral Home;Sweeney Plan;Belle Vernon R.D.2. Blessing services there Saturday;June 21;at 9:30 a.m.followed by Requiem High Mass in St.Anne R.C.Church;Rostraver Twp.;at 10 a.m. The Rev.Francis M.Lesniak;pastor;will act as celebrant. Interment at Belle Vernon Cemetery with full military honors. Rosary will be recited at the funeral home June 20 at 8 p.m. James C.Stump is funeral director.
