Obituary

Bert Smith,71,a retired mail carrier of Belle Vernon Post Office,died Sunday July 5,1964,at 3:05 a.m.in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. He lived at 309 Speer St.,Belle Vernon. A veteran of World War I,Mr.Smith was a past commander of Belle Vernon Post 659 American Legion. He was a member of North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department,and of Belle Vernon Musical Society. Surviving are his widow,Alice Hammitt Smith,four daughters,Mrs.Robert (Isabelle) Kyle of Belle Vernon,Mrs.Edward (Betty) Sulek of Chester,Mrs.George (Dolores) Usher of Charleroi and Mrs.Evelyn Komlos,at home,16 grandchildren,and a brother,Elmer Smith of Philadelphia. Friends are being received at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home,Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,July 8,at 1:30 p.m.from the funeral home,with the Rev.Elmer Lewis of Fayette City officiating. Interment will be in the Soldiers Memorial Plot,Belle Vernon Cemetery. Harold R.Toner,funeral director.
