Bert Smith;71;a retired mail carrier of Belle Vernon Post Office;died Sunday July 5;1964;at 3:05 a.m.in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. He lived at 309 Speer St.;Belle Vernon. A veteran of World War I;Mr.Smith was a past commander of Belle Vernon Post 659 American Legion. He was a member of North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department;and of Belle Vernon Musical Society. Surviving are his widow;Alice Hammitt Smith;four daughters;Mrs.Robert (Isabelle) Kyle of Belle Vernon;Mrs.Edward (Betty) Sulek of Chester;Mrs.George (Dolores) Usher of Charleroi and Mrs.Evelyn Komlos;at home;16 grandchildren;and a brother;Elmer Smith of Philadelphia. Friends are being received at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home;Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday;July 8;at 1:30 p.m.from the funeral home;with the Rev.Elmer Lewis of Fayette City officiating.
