Obituary

The body of Stephen Oliver Rhodaback,68,Webster,was found floating in the Monongahela River in Webster on Saturday, May 26,1962.  The victim had been in the water approximately 36 hours,Westmoreland County Coroner Stephen D.Yoney,Monessen,stated.  He said death was due to drowning.  Mr. Rhodaback,a retired coal miner, had been in ill health. The body was seen floating in the river by two youths playing on shore.  The boys, Edward Sullenberger,10,and Richard Brumgardener,9,notified Webster fireman,who brought the body to shore. The victim was born in Fairhope on Feb. 12,1894. Surviving are his widow, Emily of Fayette City,R.D.1; one son,Gerald of Belle Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Mavis Bertiaux of Charleroi and Mrs. Dorothy Kostelac of Fayette City,R.D.1;two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Swearer and Mrs. Emma Francis,both of Fayette City, R.D.1,and one grandchild. Services were held May 28 at 1:30 p.m. from the Howard W. McCrory Funeral Home in Fayette City. The Rev. David Snyder of the Fayette City Christian Church officiated.  Interment followed in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
