A 63-year-old man was burned to death early Tuesday morning,June 4,1957, in a shanty he occupied near the abandoned coke ovens on the Belle Vernon-Fayette City Rd. He was identified as Andy Nigoot. A Croatian immigrant, Mr.Nigoot, according to Police Chief Vincent Isenberg, of Belle Vernon, apparently was asleep in his self-made shack when it caught fire about 3 o'clock Tuesday morning. When Isenberg and Belle Vernon and North Belle Vernon fireman arrived on the scene the shanty was a blazing inferno. Mr. Nigoot was trapped inside. When fireman reached him he was already dead. He was burned beyond recognition. The shack was burned to the ground. Howard McCrory, deputy coroner from Fayette County, said Mr. Nigoot, who did odd jobs in the Belle Vernon vicinity, is believed to have only one known survivor, a brother living somewhere in Ohio. Attempts are being made to locate him. The dead man was taken to the McCrory Funeral Home in Fayette City. The victim was also known as Andy Nigat, according to Mr.McCrory.
