Harry K.McCraw;62;president of the Mon Valley branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People;died unexpectedly Sunday;Dec.19;1971;at 2:30 p.m.in Shadyside Hospital;Pittsburgh. Mr.McCraw;a Monessen resident for 47 years;lived at 952 Grant Ave. He was born Jan.11;1909;in Dunbar;son of the late James McCraw and Elmira McCraw Lacy. For the past 31 years he had been an employee of the Monessen office of Mellon Bank. Mr.McCraw was a member of Union Baptist Church;Monessen;and was superintendent of its Sunday School for many years;as well as president of the Baptist Training Union. Always interested in young
people’s activities; he was a
committeeman on the Boy Scout Board of Review;a past president
of the Liaison Council of
the Monessen public schools and
treasurer of the Monessen Midget Football League and Midget Baseball League. Mr. McCraw also was a member of the Monessen Organization for Racial Equality and of the Mayor’s Human Relations Commission. Surviving are his widow; Mrs. Ruby Draper McCraw; two daughters;Mrs. Alphonse (Carolyn) Carter of Cincinnati;Ohio;and Mrs.Dale (Marilyn) Simpson of Monessen;four grandchildren;two brothers;Maurice McCraw of Brandywine;Md.and the Rev.Clarence McCraw of Pittsburgh;two sisters;Mrs.Etta Wilson of Pittsburgh and Mrs.Helen Little of Monessen. Friends will be received after 7 p.m.Monday at the Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home;608 Sixth St.;Monessen;where visiting hours are 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday;Dec.22;1971;at 11 a.m.in the Union Baptist Church;Monessen; in charge of the Rev.John E.Washington;pastor of the First Baptist Church;Donora;assisted by the Rev.Samuel Greene and the Rev.Philip Greene;both of Monessen.
