Obituary

State police are continuing their investigation into the drowning of a Belle Vernon man early Saturday morning, Oct. 2,1976. Jeffrey L. Lenhart,20,of 221 Water St.,apparently fell from a barge into the Monongahela River near the Belle Vernon-Speers Bridge.  His body was recovered late Saturday morning by a team of Fayette City firemen helping in the recovery operation. North Belle Vernon fire officials were in charge of the search and rescue operations and thanked the following for their assistance: Belle Vernon,Fayette City,Donora,North Charleroi, Webster, Rostraver Central,Collinsburg and Allenport firemen;Belle Vernon Ladies Auxiliary;Salvation Army;scuba divers from Greensburg,divers Charles Spotts of Monessen and Darwin Bethem of Belle Vernon. Mr. Lenhart was born in North Charleroi on Dec. 2,1955. He moved from North Charleroi 16 years ago.He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church,Belle Vernon,and was employed at the Clairton Works of United States Steel. He was graduated from Belle Vernon Area High School in 1973. Surviving are his parents,Norman and Margaret Lenhart,with whom he resided; three brothers, Robert L. Lenhart of Belle Vernon,James Lenhart of London, England,and Norman L. Lenhart of Alexandria, Va.,and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Vernet of Belle Vernon, Mrs. Leo (Diana) Kelly of Charleroi and Mrs. Clarence (Velma) Fine of Elizabeth. Friends are being received at the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon, until 9 p.m. Monday.  Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Catholic Church,Belle Vernon.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
