Obituary

Mary E. Kirkpatrick, 83, formerly of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 3, 2018, at Hallsworth House in Monessen. A daughter of the late Howard and Garnet Layton, she was born in Fayette City on February 8, 1935. Mary was a member of First Christian Church in Fayette City and the Christian Center Church in Rostraver Township. During her lifetime, Mary had worked as an office manager for New Stanton Motor Inn, waitress and hostess for JIB Restaurant in Charleroi, a medical office assistant in Mt. Pleasant, CNA at Havencrest in Monongahela, customer service representative at Thrift Drug and Eckerd Drug in Belle Vernon, a hairstylist for FranDale Salon in Monessen and Karen’s in Speers, and as a manager for BoRics in Rostraver Township. Although many of those places have long since closed or changed names, Mary will always be remembered for her cheerful smile, personality, and ability to make each person feel special. First and foremost, Mary will be remembered by her family as a wonderful wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Amy and Mark Thomas of Rostraver Township and two grandchildren Tyler Thomas and Melanie Thomas, which she often said were her greatest joys next to knowing Jesus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Kirkpatrick, son, John Mark Kirkpatrick, and an infant sister, Mamie Layton. Her family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Hallsworth House for their compassionate care and also to OSPTA Hospice for their kind and attentive care. At her request, a private viewing and funeral was held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 with Pastor Mike Hough officiating. Interment followed in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon handled arrangements. 724-929-5300 www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com
